Taizhou Pastry Training Course Warmly Underway

As autumn deepens, it’s the perfect time for delicious flavors. Hosted by the Jiaojiang District Market Supervision Administration and organized by Xin Rong Ji College of Taizhou Vocational & Technical College, the "Employee Taizhou Pastry Training Course" officially kicked off on the evening of October 13! This training aims to enrich employees' leisure time, enhance their life skills, and preserve and innovate the "Taste of Taizhou" through hands-on creation.

Since its launch on October 13, the first two sessions of the training course have been successfully conducted. Under the guidance of professional instructors from Xin Rong Ji College, 30 participants immersed themselves in the joy of pastry-making, transitioning from theory to practice. The training room was filled with enticing aromas and an enthusiastic atmosphere.

Session 1: Handcrafted Seaweed Pancakes with Artisan Spirit

In the first session, participants were introduced to the classic Taizhou snack—Seaweed Pancakes. Through the instructor’s detailed explanations and demonstrations, they learned how to perfectly wrap the filling in the dough and shape it into beautiful discs. As the oven released a rich, savory aroma, golden and plump Seaweed Pancakes emerged, filling everyone with a sense of accomplishment.

When the oven released its rich, savory aroma, and the golden, crispy Seaweed Pancakes were freshly baked, the participants’ pride was evident. The self-made pancakes tasted exceptionally delightful!

Session 2: Soft and Glutinous Steamed Rice Balls, Warm and Heartwarming

If the Seaweed Pancakes offered a crispy surprise, the Steamed Rice Balls from the second session brought soft, glutinous warmth. This round and chewy specialty snack requires precise dough-to-filling ratios, kneading techniques, and steaming control. Instructor’s Demonstration

The participants were full of enthusiasm, carefully wrapping the filling into the soft dough under the instructor’s guidance, shaping them into round, adorable rice balls. As steam rose from the baskets, the glistening, translucent appearance of the cooked rice balls captivated everyone, prompting them to take photos and earning rave reviews upon tasting.

As the lead institution of Taizhou’s "Food Safety Sharing" training base, Xin Rong Ji College integrates food safety principles into every aspect of its teaching. Throughout the course, instructors emphasized the importance of clean work surfaces, proper ingredient handling, and storage methods. This ensures that participants not only improve their culinary skills but also strengthen their sense of responsibility to "uphold integrity, comply with laws, and share food safety."

This training marks a successful example of government-academia collaboration. In the coming weeks, participants will continue to learn how to make more classic pastries, such as Traditional Scallion and Meat Buns and Black Glutinous Rice Cakes.
