You are Invited to Deliberate: Municipal CPPCC Convened Meeting on Key Proposal "Promoting Taizhou's Gastronomic Culture and Expediting the Establishment of the 'World Capital of Gastronomy'"

Recently, the Taizhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) convened a meeting for deliberation on the handling of the key proposal "Promoting Taizhou's Gastronomic Culture and Expediting the Establishment of the 'World Capital of Gastronomy.'" Vice Mayor Zhang Yueyan and Vice Chairperson of the Municipal CPPCC Shen Jie attended the meeting.

The municipal Party committee and government attach great importance to the application for the "World Capital of Gastronomy." They have included this initiative in both the "List of Responsibilities for the Work Requirements of 'Creating Ten Key Achievements, Implementing Ten Key Actions, and Advancing Ten Key Reforms'" and the "2023 Government Work Report: Responsibility Breakdown of Objectives and Tasks." It has been explicitly stated that efforts should be made to build Taizhou’s landmark tourism projects with the core framework of "One Capital (World Capital of Gastronomy), Two Routes, and Three 5A-rated Attractions."

During the meeting, the lead handling unit of the proposal, the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports, along with the co-handling units, reported on the progress of the proposal's response and handling, and presented preliminary feedback. The proposers expressed satisfaction with the handling results and offered suggestions such as promoting the inheritance, protection, and innovative development of gastronomy, attracting and nurturing food enterprises, and enhancing the concentration of the food industry.

Shen Jie pointed out that the development of the gastronomic industry serves as an important indicator of socio-economic vitality, the prosperity of urban and rural markets, and the standard of living. It holds significant social, cultural, and economic value. There is a need to further enhance the understanding of the strategic importance of the gastronomic industry in economic and social development. Efforts should be made to collect, organize, and research materials related to distinctive food culture, delve deeper into the cultural connotations of Taizhou's gastronomy, and effectively carry out preservation, inheritance, and promotion efforts. Additionally, it is essential to intensify publicity and promotion to enhance the popularity and appeal of Taizhou's cuisine, helping it gain recognition both nationally and internationally.

Zhang Yueyan listened attentively to the opinions and suggestions from the attendees and fully affirmed the handling of the proposal. She noted that since the application for the "World Capital of Gastronomy" began at the end of last year, various departments have collaborated extensively to advance the work. In the next phase, it is essential to continue studying and promoting the "Six Major Projects" for the development of the "Taizhou Cuisine" gastronomic industry, in accordance with the establishment standards for the "World Capital of Gastronomy." The high-quality development of the "Taizhou Cuisine" gastronomic industry and the establishment of the "World Capital of Gastronomy" should be treated as critical platforms for deepening the integration of culture and tourism and upgrading the tourism industry. Efforts must be expedited to achieve deeper integration of culture and tourism. Moreover, leading enterprises and the gastronomic industry should be encouraged to play an active role in fostering collaboration and enhancing the popularity and influence of Taizhou cuisine.
